Nearly 600 attendees experienced three-days of sessions and discussions covering essential topics in investment trends, strategies, and the regulatory environment in institutional asset management, brokerage and municipal finance at the 28th Annual Pension and Financial Services Conference held in Los Angeles.

The Professional Development Series is designed to teach effective strategies to build leadership, communication and critical thinking skills for young and mid-career professionals and included topics such as Code-Switching and Authentic Leadership; Global Economy: Being Prepared for your Seat at the Table, Mesa or Tafel; Machine Wisdom: Blockchain, Big Data and Their Impacts on Finance; and a session focused on Wealth Management Powered by Morgan Stanley on Advising the High Net Worth Client: From the Corporate Boardroom to the National Stage. Thanks to NASP Sponsor Greenberg Traurig, LLP, PDS attendees also had an opportunity to take the Clifton'sStrengthsFinder Analysis and learned how to evaluate the results with a session facilitated by Pepperdine University. Now in its third year, the Africa Financial Summit was privileged to have speakers and attendees traveling from countries including South Africa, Nigeria, Mauritius, and Uganda. Topics covered Channels for Investing in Africa: The Growing Role of Private Equity and Infrastructure; Co-investments with African Pension Funds and Institutional Investors: Current Opportunities and Challenges; U.S./Africa Cross-Continent Best Practices in Financial Services and Pension Fund Management as well as a main stage panel that explored the role of impact investing funds and other private investment vehicles to address the continent's development goals with Agnes Dasewicz, Director, Office of Private Capital and Microenterprise, USAID; Joseph Boateng, CFA, Chief Investment Officer, Casey Family Programs; Ndabe Mkhize, CFA, CAIA, Chief Investment Officer, Eskom Pension and Provident Fund; and Jim Roth, PhD, Co-Founder, LeapFrog Investments.
Tuesday and Wednesday concurrent sessions were led by industry experts on topics including Whose Fees Are These?; Monetization of Non-Core Municipal Assets; The Next Frontier of Retirement Readiness: The Intersection of Pensions (DB Plans), Social Security and Defined Contribution Plans; Municipal CFO and Treasurers' Roundtable; No Plain Vanilla - The Search for Yield; What's All the Buzz about ESG?; Is the Illiquid Market the Next Bull Market? and other pertinent industry topics.
